49

ii. ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT :

Description :

Replace the engine coolant and flush the

cooling system every 1,05,000 km or 60

months whichever is earlier.

Procedure :

WARNING

Coolant is poisonous to humans and

animals. Use care when handling coolant

and use proper disposal otherwise death

or injury may occur.

Never loosen or remove the coolant

reservoir cap while the engine cooling

system is still hot. Removing the reservoir

cap may allow hot coolant or steam to

escape, causing severe bums.

The electric cooling fan, may start at any

time. Disconnect the battery cable to

prevent the fan from operating while

servicing the cooling system.

1. Allow the vehicle engine to cool sufficiently

before proceeding.

2. Disconnect the negative(-) battery cable.

3. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.

4. Raise the vehicle off the ground to access the

coolant drain petcock on the radiator.

Raise the vehicle with a lift hoist.

Park the vehicle on flat, level surface and

engage the parking brake. Place chocks

at the rear wheels and raise the front of

the vehicle with a floor jack.

5. Place a container capable of holding at least

eight (8) litres of liquid beneath the drain plug

on the radiator.

6. Loosen the drain plug and allow the coolant

to drain into the container.

7. Remove the fasteners securing the engine

coolant reservoir to the bracket in the engine

compartment.

8. Drain the coolant reservoir and rinse out any

sediment.

9. Use fresh water to reverse flush the radiator

from the drain to the coolant reservoir bottle.

10. Secure the coolant reservoir bottle in the

engine compartment using the fasteners

removed previously.

11. Close the coolant drain plug on the radiator.

12. Add the recommended brand of pre-mixed

40:60 coolant to the reservoir until the coolant

level is

at the 'MAX' mark on the bottle.

13. Start the engine and gradually increase

engine speed to allow the engine to reach 85-

90

o

C, which allows the thermostat to open.

14. Allow the engine to return to idle speed.

15. Stop the engine and allow to cool sufficiently.

16. Add pre-mixed 40:60 coolant to the reservoir

until the coolant level is at the 'MAX' mark on

the bottle.
