P246F-64: Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor Circuit Range / Performance Bank 1 Sensor 4 – Outlet Diesel

Particulate Filter exhaust gas temperature sensor plausibility

Overview:

DTC Description (User Friendly)

Outlet Diesel Particulate Filter exhaust gas temperature sensor

plausibility

ECU Pin Number

K047, K050

Customer Symptom

MIL ON, CEL OFF. Torque Loss

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Torque Loss, DPF Regen Off.

Lamp Status (If Any)

MIL ON, CEL OFF

Fault Detection Condition (Root cause)

The temperature of sensor at Outlet DPF (T6) position is

compared with all other temperature values (T3, T4 and T5 sensor

values) and if the value is showing non-plausibility with all other

sensor. Then the corresponding DTC is Set

Normal Operating Condition

No fault

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness connections between Inlet DPF Temperature

sensor and EMS ECU

Outlet DPF Temperature sensor

Engine Management System

Healing Condition

Rectify the error

Clear through diagnostic tool

Ignition OFF & ON

Component Details:

The outlet DPF temperature sensor is based on a PTC sensitive element, placed inside the sensor body; the resistance

decreases/increase as the air temperature increases, according to its specific characteristics. The PTC resistance value,

in combination with ECU interface, gives an output voltage proportional to temperature changes.

Preliminary Checks:

1. Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned in above

Table. If yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

2. Check whether other customers report similar complaints earlier. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with

respect to earlier issue closure.

3. Check for damage of pins / back out of pins at ECU connector / Outlet DPF temperature sensor connector. If

found, rectify.

4. Check the wiring harness connections between the Outlet DPF temperature sensor and EMS ECU.

Trouble Shooting:

Step Checks

IF YES

IF NO

1

Check the Electrical Continuity between the DPF Outlet

temperature sensor and EMS ECU. For pin details, refer

schematic section below.

Go to next step

Rectify the wiring

harness

connections as per

the circuit

schematic.

2

Are there any pins damaged at EMS ECU Connector

Replace the

connector or wiring
