E. CONDENSER AND RECEIVER DRIER
CONDENSER
The condenser is a heat exchanger used to cool the
hot vapourised refrigerant. Also the refrigerant
changes its state from vapour to liquid. The conden-
ser in this vehicle, as in many other vehicles is
placed in front of the radiator behind the radiator is
the fan used to draw in ambient air.
CONDENSER SEALING DUCTS
Sealings are used to guide the flow of the air to the
condenser and also to avoid the hot air recirculating
from the engine compartment to the condenser.
RECEIVER DRIER (R.D)
The receiver drier is integrated into the Condenser
and has three main functions.
i) It absorbs the moisture in the refrigerant.
ii) It allows only liquid (
high pressure liquid)
to pass
through to the TXV.
iii) It keeps a reserve of refrigerant to accommodate
fluctuating refrigerant requirements.
F. THERMISTER OR THERMO SENSOR
NOTE
To remove thermister from the HVAC unit, the HVAC
assembly needs to be dismantled.
It is a temperature sensing device, which is posi-
tioned at the coldest point of the evaporator
(as
shown in the fig below)
. The control unit switches
OFF the compressor at a temperature when con-
densed water tends to form ice on the fins of
evaporator. Thus it maintains the evaporator tem-
perature within a specified range.
THERMISTER POSITION ON EVAPORATOR
The thermister bulb should be fixed such that the
sensing bulb is right over the point as shown figure
above. This point in this vehicle’s front evaporator is
fixed at a point as given in the figure above.
