ENGINE DISMANTLING PROCEDURE
(Engine mounted on the work stand)
Removal of cooling fan
Unstake lock plates and remove fan mounting bolts.
Now remove fan along with hub. (Refer Fig. 9)
Fig. 11
Removal of viscous drive fan (if fitted)
Remove viscous fan mounting nuts & remove viscous
fan assembly (Fig. 10)
Observe following precautions while handling
viscous fan.
1. The assembly viscous fan to be stored in the
upside down condition. This is to prevent the
silicone oils leakage through the oil seal. (Fig. 11)
2. While assembling / disassembling the viscous fan.
Take proper care to avoid damages to bimetallic
coil (located on viscous clutch housing towards
radiator)
3. Care of viscous coupling to ensure lifelong trouble
free service.
a. The viscous coupling should not be cleaned with
high-pressure water spray or steam cleaning
equipment.The use of such high-pressure water /
steam can cause damage to the bearing seal which
allows water to enter the bearing. The presence of
water in the bearing grease can cause corrosion
and premature failure.
b. The fan should be inspected during each scheduled
servicing to ensure that none of the blades are
damaged. Such damage can occasionally be
caused if the stones or other foreign objects get
thrown up from the road against rotating fan.
Damage to the fan causes an imbalance situation
which is detrimental to the fan clutch bearing, and
inevitably shortens the life of viscous coupling unit.
