Turn nose of carrier up and remove inner pinion bearing
cup.
Locate driver on back edge of cup, then drive out cup
using Remover, rear pinion bearing cup. Pt. No. 2698
5890 3511 and handle

Note:
A pinion depth shim is located between the
inner pinion bearing cone and pinion gear.
Remove inner pinion bearing using Press Pt. No.
698 5890 3515, Adapter, rear pinion bearing cone.

Remove pinion depth shim from pinion.
CLEANING AND INSPECTING
Wheel Unit Bearing
Clean bearing cup with metal cleaning solvent.
Inspect cup for any possible wear, nicks etc.
The cone assembly can be cleaned in place on the
axle shaft.
Use stiff bristle brush and compressed air.
Note:
Bearing should not be ‘Spin dried’ with
compressed air. Air should be directed so
that it goes through the bearing.
Clean bearing bore in the housing.
After inspection, lubricate bearing with a small
amount of specified lube prior to installation.
