e) Cam shaft phase sensor

Fig. 10

It senses the cam shaft position. It is mounted

on rear side of the cylinder head towards intake

camshaft side.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU)

FUNCTION :

It is the heart of the petrol injection system. It

receives different engine parameters in the form of

electrical signals and decides on the optimum

air/fuel ratio required by the engine.

WORKING :

1.

The ECU receives electrical signals from

different sensors.

2.

These signals are then converted to digital

signal with the help of analog to digital

converters.

3.

The ECU calculates the optimum air / fuel ratio

required by the engine.

4.

It converts the signals back to the analog form

and sends it to the injectors.

5.

The injectors remain open for a specified time.

6.

The time depends upon the supply of voltage

from the ECU.

7.

In this fashion the optimum air/fuel ratio is fed

into the cylinders.

CAUTIONS :

1.

Please don’t fix any washer on knock

sensor.

2.

Put cable tie for phase sensor cable in order

to avoid touching hot EGR pipe.

3.

High tension (HT) cables should be routed

such that it should not foul with EGR pipe.

4.

Fit the (high tension) HT cables in their

respective bracket to avoid friction with fuel

return line.
