H. EXHAUST PIPE
When carrying out periodic maintenance or
when vehicle is raised for other service, check
exhaust system as follows:
Ensure flex bellow should not be pre stress or
bend as shown in below figure & also ensure
proper orientation of rubber hangers.
Check rubber hanger mountings for damage,
cracks, ageing, and deterioration or out of
position and if found damage replace the same.
Replace all rubber hangers after 30,000 KM.
Keep sufficient clearance between exhaust
system component and underbody.
Check exhaust system for abnormal noise,
leakage, loose connection, dent & damage. If
bolts or nuts are loose, tighten them to the
specified torque. (Ref section for Torque
specifications of bolt & Nuts).
Check nearby body areas for damage, missing
or miss-positioned part, open seam, hole, loose
connection or any other defect which could
permit exhaust fumes to seep into vehicle.
Make sure that exhaust system components
have enough clearance from underbody to
avoid overheating and possible damage to floor
carpet.
Any defects should be fixed at once.
After Installation, start engine & check each joint
of Exhaust System for leakage.
Exhaust System Inspection for leaks-
The vehicle is raised for an oil change
Notice a change in sound of the exhaust
The vehicle was in a crash that may have
damaged the underside.
AVOID
Blockages in the exhaust can create back
pressure, low top speed, poor pick up, black
smoke, carbon build up and low mileage.
The DOC/DPF should not be dropped from a
height. If dropped, it should not be used.
WARNING
Extended idling at high engine speeds can
produce very high temperatures in the engine
and exhaust system, creating the risk of fire or
other damage.
Do not park, idle or drive your vehicle on dry
grass or other dry ground cover. The emission
system heats up the engine compartment and
exhaust system, creating the risk of fire.
Do not start the engine in a closed garage or in
other enclosed areas. Exhaust fumes can be
toxic. Always open the garage door before you
start the engine.
If you smell exhaust fumes inside your vehicle,
have it checked immediately. Do not drive your
vehicle if you smell exhaust.
Do not drive with the lift gate or rear door open,
Exhaust fumes may enter your vehicle.
To avoid the danger of being burned, do not
touch exhaust system when the system is hot.
Any service on the exhaust system should be
performed when the system is cool.
Carbon monoxide gas is toxic. Breathing it can
cause unconsciousness and even kill you.
Avoid any enclosed areas or activities that
expose you to carbon monoxide.
Ensure exhaust system and DOC/DPF is not
blocked and is free from obstruction.
