B0001-12:- Driver Frontal Stage 1 Deployment Control circuit short to battery

Overview:-

Customer Symptom

SRS Warning Lamp continuously ON in Instrument Cluster.

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Driver Airbag deployment not guaranteed, if a crash happens

Lamp Status (If Any)

SRS Warning Lamp continuously ON in Instrument Cluster.

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets logged if any of the high side (A16) or low side pin

(A15) of Driver Airbag gets shorted with battery line.

Normal Operating Condition

No short with battery should be present.

Probable Trouble Area

Related wiring Harness, connector or terminals

Driver Airbag Module

Clock Spring

Airbag ECU

Healing Condition

Remove the short to battery.

Component Details:-

Clock spring

:- It is located between the steering column and steering wheel that conducts electrical signals in an

Airbag system to the module, while allowing steering-wheel rotation. This provides electrical continuity in all

steeringwheel positions.

Driver Airbag Module

:- It is fitted inside the steering wheel consisting of a flexible fabric envelope or cushion

designed to inflate rapidly during an accident.

Airbag ECU

:- It is fitted in the floor of central console in the car. The Airbag Electronic Control Unit (ECU) controls

the deployment system to allow an appropriate igniting of the Airbags and belt pre-tensioners to restrain the driver

and passengers.

Preliminary Checks:-

1. Check Battery Voltage (12 V & above)

2. Check for any faults in Airbag Warning Lamp indication in Instrument Cluster.

3. Ensure the proper locking of Airbag ECU wiring harness connectors in the vehicle by the locking sound.
