SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS)

28

V LOCK SPRING

Clock spring is a spirally wound wire coil (not a slip

ring) mounted to steering column. This single-wire

type contact reel (clock spring) design ensures most

reliable contact possible between air bag module

assembly and crash sensor. It also provides the

electrical continuity for airbag, horn, vehicle cruise

control and infotainment system.

The clock spring needs to be replaced

1. When the connectors that attach to the drivers

airbag is melted and fused directly to the DAB

module. During a deployment the gas conver-

sion creates a heat exchange inside the DAB

module and that causes connectors to melt.

2. If any connector or internal routing of wire/s are

damaged or disconnected

3. Intermittent signal continuity between input and

output of clock spring

LOCATION
