PROPELLER SHAFT

13

6. Remove the end yoke from the propeller shaft

and place in a soft jawed vise to inspect the

cross hole surfaces. Raised metal can be

removed with a rat tail or half round file. Emery

cloth should be used to remove all rust and

corrosion from cross hole bores.

ASSEMBLY OF UNIVERSAL JOINT

1. Position the cross in the yoke.

2. Move one end of the cross to cause a trunnion

to project through the cross hole beyond the

outer machined face of the yoke lug. Place a

bearing assembly over the trunnion diameter

and align it to the cross hole. Using an arbor

press, hold the trunnion in alignment with the

cross hole and place a solid plug on the upper

bearing assembly.

3. Press the bearing assembly into the cross hole

enough to install a snap ring.

4. Install a snap ring.

5. Peat the above steps to install the opposite

bearing assembly.
