NOTE

III. LUBRICATION FOR UNIVERSAL JOINT

Universal joint crosses and bearings are pre-

lubricated or lube for life designs and have no

lube fittings. Special seals are used to contain the

lubricant in the cross bearings in this design.

Replacement of the cross and bearing kit is

recommended

.

10.8 ON VEHICLE REPAIRS

WARNING

Propeller shaft assemblies can weigh in excess of

14 kilograms. Be sure to use proper lifting

techniques when handling propeller shaft. More

than one person may be needed when handling

propeller shaft assemblies.

CAUTION

Before removing the propeller shaft,

Apply the parking brakes.

Block the wheels using wheel chokes.

Mark the slip yoke assembly and tube shaft

with a marking stick or paint to assure proper

alignment when reassembled. This is known

as keeping the propeller shaft yokes “in

Phase

”.

NOTE

Do not remove gear box connected yoke and rear

axle connected yoke on vehicle.
