4.3.1.7 GENERAL SYMPTOMS & DIAGNOSIS

Drain old oil and replace with
specified oil.
Loosen bolts or mounting parts.
Re-tighten as specified.
Noisy transfer case bearings.
Disassemble bearings and parts

Noisy gears.
Check for wear and damage
including speedometer gear and
replace if necessary.
Worn or damaged sprockets or
drive chain.
Disassemble and check for
wear and damage. Replace if
necessary.

Noise in 4WD
operation
Incorrect tyre pressure.
Adjust tyre pressure.
Cracked transfer case.
Replace the case.
Leakage from other parts.
Clean case and parts and check
for leakage.
Breather clogging.
Remove breather and clean it.
Replace if necessary.
Oil level higher than required or
improper brand of oil being used.
Use specified oil. Adjust oil level
Loosen sealing bolts.
Re-tighten.
Improper brand of sealant or
improperly applied sealant.
Use specified sealant and
retighten.

Transfer case oil
leakage.
Worn or damaged oil seal.
Replace oil seal.
Faulty or damaged ECU, speed
sensor, clutch or internal wiring.
Refer to self diagnosis.

Electric shift problems.
Damaged or worn shift cam, hub,
fork and rail shaft.
Overhaul and check for wear
and damage. Replace if
necessary.
