ECU Handling and Care :
Earth (Ground) Connection:
1. Ensure all the ground connections are fixed
correctly.
2. DO NOT leave any grounded wire loose or
open.
3. ECU ground pins should be grounded within
300mm from the ECU.
Power Supply :
At IGNITION ON, ECU starts functioning and
initializes, the power for the main drivers for the
ECU are taken from the MAIN RELAY power
supply. The MAIN RELAY output stage gives 12
volts when ECU grounds the MAIN RELAY at
IGNITION ON. After IGNITION OFF the ECU
holds the MAIN RELAY GROUND for some
duration known as the POWER LATCH period so
that the vital functionalities are powered ON for
that duration.
PRECAUTION
Do not disconnect the connector of the
ECU for at least 1 minute after IGNITION
OFF. Never disconnect the connector of
the ECU during IGNITION ON.
Ensure that ignition switch is in OFF
position while plugging - in the connector to
the ECU.
Input :
Ensure that the Input signal line is as far as
possible away from noise sources such as
High Tension Cable, Horn relay, Motor etc.
Ensure that sealed wire are used for input
line of lambda oxygen Sensor, Crank Angle
Sensor and the wiring is as far as possible
from the noise sources similar to the ones
above. Sensor ground connections should
not be shorted to 12 volts supply.
Output :
Take care to avoid dead-short (solenoid
short-circuit etc.) and similar circuit
misconnection while checking (to avoid any
damage). Use a solenoid which does not use
a fly - back diode (reverse polarity may
damage the Output Power Transistor).
Mounting / Installation Guidelines :
While mounting to the fixation the ECU
must be fixed without deformations. As an
ideal solution, a connection with minimum
3 screws, screwed on a plan surface, is to
be considered.
Bouncing of the fixed ECU between ECU
and fixation underground is not
permissible.
Stagnant humidity and water standing
directly on the sealing area (“bath tub”)
between cover and bottom part or
respectively the connector is not
permissible. That means the defined
mounting angles of the offer drawing must
be considered.
Formation of electro-chemical corrosion
created by the use and connection of
different metals within the installation of
the control device is to be avoided.
Following combination of materials are
not acceptable: Steel – Brass - PBT =
stress corrosion cracking (appearance of
base at NaCl load).
The first fixation point of the wiring
harness must be in a distance - 150 mm
from the cable outlet and on the same
vibration level as the ECU.
Relative motion between the wiring
harness and the ECU has to be
minimized.
It has to be assured that no water can
infiltrate through the wiring harness into
the connector or the ECU respectively.
This can be achieved by using a Siphon
or a breathing hole.
If the Electronic Control Module is coated,
it must be ensured, that the Pressure
Compensation Element (PCE), the
connector and the label are free of
coating.
The mounting position of the ECU has to
be in a distance which is large enough
from a heat source to avoid any influence
of heat transfer to the ECU.
The mounting place of the ECU should be
chosen to gain low humidity and corrosion
loads. Permanent water spraying based
on splash water must be avoided by
appropriate protections.
The impact of chemicals (e.g. oils, diesel,
and gasoline, detergents for cleaning,
brake fluid, battery acid, and so on)
should be low.
