CRANK SHAFT :

Clean the crank shaft with a cleaning solution.

Inspect visually for

l

Over heating, indicated by bluish brown colour

l

Scoring marks on journals

Check for cracks on magnetic crack detector.

Check for hardness of journals.

Check crank shaft run out. Fig. 115

Note : The straightening of crank shaft should be

done only in cold condition.

Check for lateral and radial run out of flywheel

mounting flange.

Check crank shaft main bearing and crank pin journal

dimension.

If required grind to next under size. Keep caution to

maintain correct fillet radii and not to increase the

width of journal.

If required grind sides of 4th main journal bearing

for thrust bearings to next over size.

Re-chamfer oil holes.

Lap journals with 320 grit lapping cloth to finish.

Recheck journal dimensions.

It is advisable to recheck crank shaft for cracks

and balance after grinding.

If crank shaft is to be stored, it must be stored in

vertical position after applying grease.

Lubrication System :

Oil Cooler

Clean oil cooler with Kerosene and blow dry with

compressed air.

Check for leakages.

Oil Pump

Check oil pump for flow rate at specified rpm.

Check for any leakage at sealing plugs.

Check functioning of pressure relief valve.

If the performance of pump is not satisfactory, then

replace oil pump assembly.

Check for the proper functioning of piston cooling

nozzle.
