Cam Shaft Inspection
Carry out visual inspection of cam shaft for

Over heating of journals, indicated by bluish/
brown colour.
l
Deep scoring marks an journal and cam lobes.
l
Cracks, which should be checked on a
magnetic crack detector.
Check hardness of cam shaft journals and cam
lobes
Check cam shaft run out at 2nd 3rd & 4th journal by
supporting on V-block at 1st & 5th journal. Fig. 103
Check cam shaft journal dimensions.
Inspect hydraulic tappets for scoring marks and
proper functioning of hydraulic plunger. Fig. 104
Check for clear oil passage.
