PISTON AND PISTON RINGS :

Clean piston and piston rings thoroughly.

Note : If cylinder bore is taper and ovality is within

specified limits, then same piston and piston rings

may be re-used.

Inspect Piston for cracks, scoring, other damages,

ring groove wear, piston pin bore wear, spring dip

groove wear/damage etc.

In case of any one piston is with any one of the

above defects, Complete piston set is to be replaced

Inspect piston rings for, scoring, lateral clearance

in piston ring grooves and butt clearance in cylinder

bore. Fig. 106 & 107

NOTE :

The above measurement of piston ring should be

done in unworn portion of the cylinder bore.

If any piston ring have any of the above defect.

Complete ring set should be replaced.

In case cylinder bore is rebored or honed, piston

and rings of appropriate size should be used.

NOTE :

Piston size is stamped on piston crown arrow

indicates the front of the engine.

Install piston rings in their respective position on

the piston using ring expander. Fig. 108 Ensure the

Stagger piston ring gaps such that they are 120

degree apart.
