Leakage of combustion gases from this gasketed joint

is often due to warped gasketed surface; such leakage

results in reduced power output and hence a higher

cost of fuel per kilometer.

NOTE

Cylinder head top surface machining is not

permitted.

Distortion of manifold seating faces :

Check the seating faces of cylinder head for manifolds,

using a straightedge and thickness gauge, in order

to determine whether these faces should be corrected

or the cylinder head re placed.

Cylinder head cover:

Remove the baffle plate in the cylinder head cover by

removing the screws.

Check the baffle plate gasket, if it is torn/damage

replaces it; otherwise it might result in high engine oil

consumption.

Check the condition of cylinder head cover gasket.

Replace if required.

Before opening cylinder head cover baffle plate, check

for leakage @ 0.2 bar air pressure.
