INSPECTION AND REPAIR DATA

Inspection Of Engine Components

NOTE

• During and immediately after disassembly,

inspect cylinder block and head for evidence of

water leakage or damage.

• Wash all disassembled parts clean, removing

grease, slime, carbon and scales, before

inspecting them to determine whether repair is

necessary or not.

• Be sure to de-scale the water jackets.

• Use compressed air to clear internal oil holes

and passages.

• Do not disturb the set combinations of valves,

bearings and bearing caps, etc. Have the sets

segregated and identified.

Cam shaft Pin Diameter

A noisy engine or an engine producing not enough

power is frequently due to its camshaft excessively

worn or bent or bowed. The wear could occur on its

cams and journals.

Camshaft run-out

Hold the camshaft between two center points, with a

dial gauge rigged up to measure its runout. Replace

the camshaft if the amount of runout so measured

exceeds the limit.
