EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM (
EGR)
2.1.8.2.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR)
system
(in-
clude EGR cooler module with EGR and bypass
valve)
is designed to reduce the amount of Oxides of
Nitrogen
(NOx)
created by engine.
In EGR system a part of exhaust gas from the ex-
haust manifold is made to mix with the fresh air
going into the engine.
The EGR quantity is controlled by ECU based on
environmental and engine conditions.
When the engine is cold, the exhaust gas is directly
fed into the intake manifold through the bypass
valve. When the engine warms up and the exhaust
gas temperature increases the bypass valve closes.
This results in the exhaust gas flowing through the
EGR cooler to reduce its temperature.
