P0340-64: Camshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit – Camshaft sensor signal invalid

Overview:

DTC Description (User Friendly)

Camshaft sensor signal invalid

ECU Pin Number

A037, A052, A051

Customer Symptom

Possible no start condition, Poor fuel economy (if Engine

Starts), Cruise Control Off, Reduced Torque Mode activated.

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

Cruise Control Off, Reduced Torque Mode activated.

Lamp Status (If Any)

MIL OFF, CEL OFF

Fault Detection Condition (Root cause)

In between of several crankshaft revolutions there are too

many or too less camshaft edges present or the distance or

the series of the camshaft edges is implausible. The defect

de-bounce counter is incremented at each implausible

camshaft revolution, if reaches the counter the threshold

(Value - 4) the error is set.

Normal Operating Condition

If during the number (threshold value), of crankshaft

revolutions all camshaft edges are present and all edges are

inside the calibrated tolerance, the error is healed. For the

plausibility check of the camshaft signal the pattern matching

of the synchronization is used.

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness connections between Camshaft sensor and

EMS ECU.
