TOD

11

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF TOD-TRANSFERCASE

During the normal operation the driver sprocket,

clutch pack housing gear along with pressure

plates rotates with the output shaft. The clutch coil

rotor and ramp plate is directly mounted on the

output shaft. When the user shifts TOD from 4x2

mode to Auto Mode electrical current is generated

in the clutch coil which is stationary and a

magnetic field is created in the rotor

(clutch coil)

which in turn creates a relative motion between the

clutch coil rotor and ramp plate. This difference in

motion forces the ball to move in the grooves

provided in the ramp plate. The ramp plate pushes

the apply plate in the clutch pack housing and

engages with the inner gear provided in clutch

pack assembly. Due to this force pressure plates

engages with the friction plate and this force is

then transmitted to the front wheel with the help of

chain drive.
