5. LOSS OF DRIVE

Loss of drive

The friction material has

come off from both sides

(centrifuged).

The shattered linings are

lodged into the cover

assembly or are loose in

the clutch housing. Some

part of driven plate could be

broken

Error by driver - e.g.

accidentally changing from

4

th

to 2

nd

gear at higher

road speeds like 60kmph.

Allow the

vehicle

speed

to

reduce

before shifting to a

lower gear.

Clutch ineffective or

not operating

Vehicle cannot be shifted in

any gear

Clutch does not get

disengaged

Hydraulic

system

malfunctioning.

Replace the faulty

component.

Check for leakages

and rectify them.

Bleed the system if

required

Check the clamps and

replace if necessary.

6. VIBRATIONS THROUGH THE PEDAL WHEN STARTING TO DE-CLUTCH

Pedal vibration

when starting to

De-clutch.

The

fingers

of

the

diaphragm are out of

alignment and show signs

of damage.

The gearbox input shaft has

struck the fingers of the

diaphragm on fitting.

Carefully guide in the

gearbox to avoid the

input shaft hitting the

cover on fitting.

7. HARSH NOISE ON DECLUTCHING

A harsh whistling

noise can be heard

either on

declutching or all

the time. It varies

according to the

pressure applied to

the pedal.

The movement of the CSC

assembled

throw-out

bearing is hard when

rotated by hand.

The bearing has seized or

was noisy from the start.

OR the bearing has

overheated, burning of the

grease caused by incorrect

pre-load.

Replace

concentric

slave

cylinder

assembly.

8. SLIPPING AND JUDDERING.

The clutch slips

and eventually

judders.

The pressure plate burn

marks.

Driver resting foot on

pedals. Incorrect master

cylinder fitment.

Always refer to the

vehicle

workshop

manual for correct

fitment of CSC, SAC

and CMC.

Educate the driver, to

use clutch pedal only

while changing gears

& avoid resting feet on

it.
