CONSTANT VELOCITY SHAFTS

Introduction :

Fixed Rzeppa Joint

Fig. 63

Rzeppa joints are built with outer race, inner Race,

cage & Six Balls. Outer Race & Inner Race have

arched (spherical) ball groovers. First cage is

assembled with inner Race & six balls and then outer

race is assembled. The torque is transferred from Inner

Race to outer race through six balls.

Plunging Double offset (DOJ) Joint

Fig. 64

DOJ is similar to Rzeppa joint, Except for outer Race

which has straight & longer ball grooves, instead of

arched, as in case of Rzeppa joint. Inner Race & Cage

can slide in & out on six balls to compensate change

in length of CV shafts.

Constant velocity joints used on both Right hand

side and left hand side are same, but for the

difference in male & female splines at DOJ end.

Right hand half shaft has male splines on DOJ side

and it fits in side gear in differential case.

Fig. 65

Left hand Half shaft has female splines and it fits on

axle shaft.

Fig. 66

The fix Rzeppa joints are used on the wheel end.

The double offset joints are used with centre section.
