III.

Solenoid Valve (Oil Control Valve)

Component Details :

The variable camshaft timing oil control solenoid

(also called the Camshaft Position (CMP)

actuator) is attached to camshaft and is

hydraulically operated in order to change the

angle of the camshaft relative to Crankshaft

Position. The variable camshaft timing oil control

solenoid is controlled by the control module. The

control module sends a pulse width modulated 12

volt signal to a variable camshaft timing oil control

solenoid. The solenoid controls the amount of

engine oil flow. The control module increases the

pulse width to accomplish the desired camshaft

operation

Coil resistance -7.4 ± 0.5 Ω at 20˚C.

Insulation resistance -50 M Ω Min (With 500V

Mega Ohm meter)

Leakage shall be 1.0 cm

/ min

Component Location :

Testing

1. Ensure the vehicle has the proper oil

viscosity.

2. Observe the engine oil level. The engine oil

level should be within the operating range.

3. Allow the engine to reach operating

temperature.

4. Increase the engine speed to 1,500 RPM.

5. Command solenoid to 25 percent. The angle

desired parameter should match the solenoid

actual parameter.

NOTE

Once dropped, should not be use.
