After removing the drum & servicing the brake,

the hand brake lever stopper to be reset on the

trailing shoe web and the hand brake cable to

be adjusted.

DRUM INSPECTION

Inspect the drum for cleanliness. Check for crack,

scores etc. Check braking surface for wear by

measuring the inside dia. Fig. 19.

inside diameter "A" 282 mm 283.5 mm

Drum to be discarded if found cracked scored

excessively or grooved. Do not weld a cracked drum.

It is unsafe and must be replaced.

Smoothen up any slight scores Heavy or extensive

scoring will cause excessive brake lining wear and it

will be necessary to resurface drum braking surface.

REMOVAL OF SHOES

Jack up the vehicle. Remove the wheels. Remove

the brake drum as per the above procedure.

Detach the hand brake cable from the lever on the

trailing shoe bymoving the lever (13) towards the centre

of the brake and removing the cable end from its

location in the end of the lever (13). Fig. 20

Using a suitable drift, take out the end of the shoe

return spring (7) Fig. 21, from the hole in the w/cyl end

of the trailing shoe (3). Reduce the adjuster assembly

to its minimum length by lifting the end of the pawl
