There are two positions for the indicator
stalk for both directions;
Latched
The indicator stalk is moved fully in either
direction until the stalk is held in position.
When the indicator stalk is in the latched
position, the directional indicators will continue
to flash until they are cancelled by the user, or
self cancelled by the steering wheel
movement.
Not Latched – 3 Flash Mode
If the indicator stalk is held in the Not
Latched position, the indicators will continue to
flash until the stalk is released.
When the indicator stalk moves to the Not
Latched position for a time period between
100ms and 700ms the indicators will enter 3
Flash Mode.
If the indicator stalk is held in the Not
Latched position for a time period greater that
700ms then the direction Indicators on that
side should flash until the stalk is moved to the
latched position or returned to the Neutral
position.
When 3 Flash Mode is entered, the
indicators will flash 3 times on the side
selected, starting with an illuminated phase. At
the end of the 3 flashes, 3 Flash Mode is
exited.
If during 3 Flash Mode the user moves the
indicator stalk to the same side for between
100ms and 700ms, the current 3 Flash Mode
is to complete and the switch movement is to
be ignored.
If during 3 Flash Mode the user moves the
indicator stalk to the opposite side the current
3 Flash Mode is to exit and stop flashing
immediately. If indicator stalk is hold at
opposite side for between 100ms and 700ms,
3 flash mode start for this side.
The flash rate of the indicators should
remain constant. Activation of the hazard
function will cancel the current 3 flash mode
immediately.
If a bulb failure is detected, 3 flash mode
will give 6 flashes at the low current double
flash rate on the affected side until the bulb
failure is no longer detected.
Tow ball electric (
If equipped
):
In this configuration, an external tow ball
electronic controller will be fitted at the rear of the
vehicle when the tow ball electrical harness is
fitted.
To comply with road lighting regulations,
direction indicator bulb failure warning will be
extended to the trailer. Trailer bulb failure will be
detected by the tow ball controller. Communication
between the tow ball controller and the BCM will
be via a single input on the BCM to indicate trailer
bulb failure.
When the driver selects left or right
direction indicators, the BCM will monitor the Tow
ball Bulb Failure input. If this input is driven low by
the tow ball controller, the BCM will double the
flash rate on the appropriate indicators to indicate
bulb failure.
As the trailer socket does not allow the
detection of a trailer, the tow ball input must be
monitored each time the direction indicators are
selected. This includes three flash modes. A fault
on the tow ball bulb failure input cannot be
detected.
The tow ball kit will be fitted at the dealers
end, but the vehicle harness will contain
connectors to allow easy fitment.
The tow ball will support the use of a
trailer, caravan or bike rack with rear light board.
The tow ball functionality is the same for any rear
attachment.
