Low Current Failure

If an open circuit is detected the BCM

shall flash the Directional Indicators at a fast

rate of 180 ± 30 cycles with a duty cycle 50%.

On detecting a normal current draw level the

Directional Indicators will return to the normal

flash rate. Failure must be diagnosed and fast

flash rate commence at the first illuminated

phase after activation. An open circuit side

repeater bulb will NOT trigger the Fast rate.

Exterior Directional Indicator failure

detection will be inhibited when the battery

voltage is below 8V or above 16V or when the

Vehicle Power State is CRANK. During an

under/over voltage condition the BCM shall

hold the previous Directional Indicator rate until

the operating voltage returns to normal. Fast

rate flashing is also active during 3 flash mode.

High Current Failure

If a short to ground is detected the BCM

shall stop flashing turn signals lamps on the

side where the failure is detected. The BCM

will retry the failed lamp the next time the

directional turn signal associated with the

failure is activated or any function using the

Directional Indicators is requested.

Hazard warning:

Hazard Warning is active in all Vehicle

Power States. In Vehicle Power States OFF, ACC,

ON and START

,

audible feedback is provided by

the Instrument Cluster.

Hazard Warning can be activated by

Manual Switch or by the Inertia Switch, causing the

Hazard lights to flash at 90 ± 30 cycles/min at duty

cycle 50%. When Hazard Warning is active, the

Hazard Warning Illumination should flash at the

same rate as the exterior Hazard Lights.

The Hazard Warning switch is a non latch

able switch. When the hazard switch changes

state from low to high this shall be detected as a

valid switch press. Inertia Switch functionality can

be only activated when power mode is ignition.

Hazard warning lamps are already active

and the Inertia switch becomes active, there will be

no change in operation of the Hazard warning

lamps but Hazard warning LED will be made OFF.

If the Hazard warning lamps are already

active due to normal Hazard Switch operation and

hazard switch is pressed again, Hazard warning

Lamps and Hazard Warning LED will be made

OFF.

If Hazard warnings Lamps are active due

to Inertia switch activation then Hazard warning

lamps will be made OFF if Inertia switch is

deactivated. In this case Hazard warning LED will

remain OFF.

Hazard switch is monitored for a stuck

switch condition .

Hazard Warning Switch Illumination:

The Hazard warning switch is fitted with a

single LED for both night time illumination of the

switch, and visual feedback when the hazard lights

have been activated.

The Hazard warning switch illumination

should flash in sequence with the directional

indicators only when the hazard warning is active.

i.e. a valid switch press has been detected to turn

the hazard warning on. The illumination should not

flash when the directional indicators are illuminated

for locking or alarm functionality.

Direction Indicators:

The Left and Right Direction Indicators are

active in Vehicle Power States IGNITION ON and

START.

Activation of the hazard function will cancel

the current Direction Indicator mode immediately.

When the hazard function is not active, the

Direction Indicator inputs should be evaluated

again to determine the current Direction Indicator

mode.

The left or right Direction Indicators are

selected using the Direction Indicator combination

switch. When selected, the appropriate Direction

Indicators lamps will flash at 90 ± 30 cycles/min

duty cycle 50%, beginning with the illuminated

phase, until the switch is released.

When the Direction Indicators combination

switch is returned to the neutral position during an

illuminated phase, the current phase is allowed to

finish. If the Vehicle Power State changes from

IGNITION ON or START to ACCESSORY or OFF

during an illuminated phase, the illumination will be

stopped immediately.
