10.2.8 SIDE REMOTE SENSING UNIT (RSU) OR
SIDE IMPACT SENSOR (IF FITTED)
The side RSU’s are used for early sensing &
severity discrimination of side crash modes. They
send signals to the SRS ECU and help in firing
the restraints at the optimal time in a frontal crash.
They also provide “Safing” function to ensure that
the SRS fires only when there is a physical crash
event of significant severity. They are located
inside the front RH B - pillar and front LH B - pillar.
