10.2.7 FRONT REMOTE SENSING UNIT (RSU)
OR FRONT IMPACT SENSOR
The front RSU’s are used for early sensing &
severity discrimination of frontal crash modes.
They send signals to the SRS ECU and help in
firing the restraints at the optimal time in a frontal
crash. They also provide “Safing” function to
ensure that the SRS fires only when there is a
physical crash event of significant severity. They
are located on the RH and LH crash member top
surface behind the front end module.
