U0121-31: Lost Communication With Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module: ABS/ESP Node Tout Faulty

Lost Communication With Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)

Control Module: ABS/ESP Node Tout Faulty

ECU Pin Number

K013 – CAN_H

K014 – CAN_L

A075 – Ignition

K001, K003, K005 – Supply voltage battery

K002, K004, K006 - Ground voltage battery

Customer Symptom

MIL OFF, CEL ON. ABS will not work, Drag torque control will

not happened.

Fault Effects (On Vehicle)

ABS will not work, Drag torque control will not happened.

Lamp Status (If Any)

CEL ON. CEL Turns Off as and when fault condition is not

present / healed.

Fault Detection Condition (Root cause)

1. ABS connector is not connected properly or

disconnected from its location.

2. ABS/ ESP is not powered up.

3. ABS/ ESP connector is not connected/

disconnected from vehicle side wiring harness.

4. CAN_H, CAN_L or/ and both lines of ABS/ ESP

are opened.

5. Any of the selected frames from BRK node is timed out.

Normal Operating Condition

ECM ECU communicates properly with ABS ECU.

Probable Trouble Area

1. Disconnection of the ABS connector.

2. CAN_H and CAN_L lines at ABS connector end.

Healing Condition

1. To fix the ABS connector correctly and Fix the

wiring harness issues from ABS side.

2. CAN_H, CAN_L or/ and both lines of ABS are

connected properly to the ABS connector.

Component Details:

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a

safety

anti-skid braking system. ABS operates by preventing th

e wheels

from

locking up during

braking,

thereby maintaining

tractive

contact with the road surface.

Preliminary Checks:

1. Check whether the customer voice / view about the issue is matching with the fault effects mentioned in above

Table. If yes, go ahead with next steps. If not, check for other DTC’s presence.

2. Check whether other customers report similar complaints earlier. If yes, perform the preliminary checks with

respect to earlier issue closure.

3. Check for Damage in EMS ECU connector / ABS Connector.

4. Check for any back out of pins at EMS ECU connector / ABS Connector.

5. Check for any damage of pins at EMS ECU connector / ABS Connector.
