5. LOSS OF DRIVE
Loss of drive
The friction material has
come off from both sides
(centrifuged).
The shattered linings are
lodged into the cover
assembly or are loose in
the clutch housing. Some
part of driven plate could be
broken
Error by driver - e.g.
accidentally changing
from 4
th
to 2
nd
gear at
higher road speeds like
60kmph.
Allow
the
vehicle
speed
to
reduce
before shifting to a
lower gear.
Clutch ineffective or not
operating
Vehicle cannot be shifted in
any gear
Clutch does not get
disengaged
Hydraulic
system
malfunctioning.
Replace the faulty
component.
Check for leakages
and rectify them.
Bleed the system if
required
Check the clamps and
replace if necessary.
6. VIBRATIONS THROUGH THE PEDAL WHEN STARTING TO DE-CLUTCH
Pedal vibration when
starting to De-clutch.
The
fingers
of
the
diaphragm are out of
alignment and show signs
of damage.
The gearbox input shaft
has struck the fingers of
the diaphragm on fitting.
Carefully guide in the
gearbox to avoid the
input shaft hitting the
cover on fitting.
7. HARSH NOISE ON DECLUTCHING
A harsh whistling noise
can be heard either on
declutching or all the
time. It varies according
to the pressure applied
to the pedal.
The movement of the CSC
assembled
throw-out
bearing is hard when
rotated by hand.
The bearing has seized
or was noisy from the
start.
OR the bearing has
overheated, burning of
the grease caused by
incorrect pre-load.
Replace concentric
slave
cylinder
assembly.
8. SLIPPING AND JUDDERING.
The clutch slips and
eventually judders.
The pressure plate burn
marks.
Driver resting foot on
pedals. Incorrect master
cylinder fitment.
Always refer to the
vehicle
workshop
manual for correct
fitment of CSC, SAC
and CMC.
Educate the driver, to
use clutch pedal only
while changing gears
& avoid resting feet
on it.
