v. STEERING WHEEL ALIGNMENT/

CENTRALISING :

1. Park the unladen vehicle with tyres in straight

ahead position on a level ground.

2. With the tyres in straight ahead position the

steering wheel may not be aligned, to align it

do the following:

With the vehicle parked for wheel alignment,

lock the front wheels on the locking plate.

Remove the steering wheel from the column,

(

refer steering wheel removal)

Align it such that the ‘T’ – emblem and spokes

are aligned properly and refit the steering

wheel.

NOTE:

For Vehicles with ESP, Steering Angle Sensor

(SAS) Calibration has to be done after Wheel

Alignment.

vi. STEERING WHEEL PLAY :

1. Position the front wheels straight ahead and

switch OFF the engine.

2. Turn the steering wheel to measure

rotation/travel of the steering wheel to left and

right without turning the front wheels.

If the play is within the specified limit the

steering linkages are OK.

If the play exceeds the limit then check for the

play in the inner and outer ball joint of the RAP

assembly and if found OK check the universal

joints in the steering column assembly.

The steering wheel play value is mention below:

Axial play

0.1 mm

maximum

Free rotational play

1

º maximum.
