486 PL ENGINE

P

After engine assembly total engine should be

tested for leakage as per the following procedure :

TEST PROCEDURE FOR SYSTEMCHECK AFTER

ENGINE ASSEMBLY

i.e. leakage test of Intake and exhaust system

(together)

1.

Plug / Close the end of exhaust tail pipe.

2.

Remove the flexible hose (ribbed hose),

connected from HFM (hot film mass flow

sensor) to assembly connection pipe before

throttle body.

3.

Make suitable arrangements for connecting

pressurised supply air at this point. Connect

air pressure indicator gauge (range 0.0 - 1.0

bar max.) in the circuit.

4.

Regulate the supply air pressure at 0.3 bar

using pressure regulator (if available source

air pressure is high).

5.

Ensure that supply air pressure is 0.3 bar before

connecting it to the engine.

6.

Start supply of pressurised air (0.3 bar) at the

point.

7.

Wait for 2 minutes to develop & stabilize air

pressure in the engine intake & exhaust

system.

8.

Close / Stop the air supply. The system is now

under pressure at 0.3 bar.

9.

If pressure does not drop below 0.2 bar, intake

& exhaust system is considered satisfactory.

Otherwise proceed as follows.

10. If system pressure drops below 0.2 bar, check

for leakages in the intake & exhaust system

(soap water solution may be used for the

purpose). Rectify the leakages & repeat the

procedure from step no. 4 for system re-check.

Note :

Engine after assembly should also be

checked using the above procedure. Plug /

Close the exhaust manifold outlet in this case

& carryout all further steps.
