UNIQUE FEATURES OF 486 PL ENGINE

Electronically controlled sequential fuel
injection engine :
Fuel Injection and Ignition are controlled through
Intelligent microprocessor programmed to give
best performance under all operating conditions.
486 PL EMS-ECU is located on LH side firewall
below glow box assembly. Fig 1

Distributor-less ignition system :
Ignition timing controlled through mapped data
of ECU and hence no tuning / adjustment /
required. Maintenance free.
l
Better starting under all operating conditions :
No need to give choke for cold start. No hot
start problem.
l
Four valves per cylinder :
Technology for improved engine breathing and
performance.
l
Hydraulic tappets :
Zero tappet clearance at all times and no tappet
adjustment and maintenance required (Self
adjusting tappets). Maintenance free.
l
Canister purging :
Through ECU for good startability and smooth
running under all operating conditions.
l
Fuel cut off
during coast down / deceleration
to save fuel.
l
Intank fuel pump :
Self priming fuel system. No fuel vapour lock
under hot soak / summer conditions.
l
Knock sensor :
Knock sensor fitted on the block to sense the
engine knock and give the feed back to ECU
to adjust the ignition for smooth engine
operation (and to prevent engine damage in
case of poor quality of fuel used).
l
Fuel circuit inertia switch :
In case of Impact / accident the inertia switch
automatically cuts off fuel supply thus prevent
any fire hazard due to fuel spillage (The switch
can be reset by thumb press). The inertia
switch is located at LH 'A' pillar lower trim below
dashboard. Fig 2
