SUSPENSION SYSTEM

AXIAL PLAY MEASUREMENT OF FRONT

BEARING

1. Following value of axial hub play is acceptablewhen

measured as per illustrated scheme.

a. For a fresh assembly (both bearings new) = Upto

110microns

b. For a old assembly = Upto 160Microns.

2. In case hub play not within specifications, check

tightening torque on the stub axle lock nut.

a. If tightening torque is correct, de-assemble the

hub assembly. In order to establish whether the

hub play is due increase in internal clearances of

bearing or due to loss of interference between hub

ID and bearing OD, measure ID of hub and OD of

bearing and check measurements against

specifications.

i. If hub ID is more than specification and bearing

OD is with in specification, use new hub-cumbrake

drum with existing/old bearings to make fresh

assembly and recheck axial hub play. The axial

hub play should be as per 1b.

ii. If bearing OD is more than specification and hub

ID is with in specification, use new set of bearings

with existing/old hub cumbrake drum tomake fresh

assembly and recheck axial hub play. The axial

hub play should be as per 1a.

iii. In case both hub ID bearing OD are not within

specification, use new hub-cum brake drum and

use new set of bearings to make fresh assembly

and recheck axial hub play. The axial hub play

should be as per 1a

b. If tightening torque is not correct, use a new

lock nut and retighten the nut to specified tightening

torque of 12-14kg-m

c. Recheck the axial play after application of

tightening torque, If axial hub play is within

specification, the assembly should be considered

as healthy and no part replacements are desired.

d. If axial hub play is not within specification, de-

assemble the hub assembly. In order to establish

whether the hub play is due increase in internal

clearances of bearing or due to loss of interference

between hub ID and bearing OD, measure ID of

hub and OD of bearing and check measurements

against specifications.

The axial hub play

should be as per 1a.

NOTE:

1. Press force should be applied with a press

gradually only on the outer ring face only. No shock

loading is permitted.

2. Any tilting based on the shift between the

measurement body, brake drum & and the

measurement finger should be avoided as it ismost

likely to happen in a overhang manual

measurement
