ENGINE 273 MPFI

SILENCER ASSEMBLY

Removal

1. Remove two bolts (sr. no.1 as shown in fig) of flange

assembly .

2. Remove two bolts (sr. no.2 as shown in fig) of

silencer bracket and take out silencer assembly.

Inspection

1. Check flange gasket for deterioration or damage.

Replace if required.

2. Check the inlet pipe for cracks.

3. Check the inlet pipe and flange welding. Check for

flange flatness. Machining of the flange is to be

done (0.5 cut) if required to achieve recommended

flatness. (0.2 mm)

4. Check for any damage or crack to silencer.

Installation

1. Align the silencer and tighten silencer bracket bolts

to specified torque.

2. Tighten two bolts of flange assembly to specified

torque.

SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

Precautions:

Following points should be noted while working on

exhaust system or handling exhaust system

components.

1 Do not touch the exhaust system when the

system is hot to avoid personal injury.

2 Any service on the exhaust system should be

performed when the system is cold.

3 Keep sufficient clearance between exhaust system

components & underbody. If some deviation is

found, correct / or adjust it.

4 Check exhaust system for leakage, loose

connection, dent or damage. If nut or bolts found

loose, tighten them to specified torque.

5 Check nearby body areas for damage, missing or

mispositioned parts, open seam, hole, loose

connection or any other defect which could permit

exhaust fumes to sip into vehicle.

6 Avoid Idling the engine with any of the Spark Plug

Cable disconnected during diagnostic test.

7 Drive slowly without acceleration in case of

following symptoms:

(a) When engine misfires or runs irregularly, following

a cold start

(b) A significant loss of power is noticed.

(c) In case “SERVICE” indicator remains ON even

after engine has been started.
