SERVICE DETAILS OF ALTERNATOR
1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SIA 120 Alternator is designed and matched to
form part of an integrated battery charging system for
automotive applications. This is a 3 phase machine of
revolving field and stationary armature type, self limiting
in current output. It is ventilated and cooled by means
of two internal fans.

3. PRECAUTIONS
DO:
•
Do ensure that all electrical connections are clean
and secure.
•
Do ensure that no electrical connection in the
circuit including the battery is open. Do observe
correct polarity while connecting battery to
alternator i.e. connect negative to negative and
positive to positive. Otherwise, Alternator will be
damaged.
•
Disconnect all Alternator terminals, while carrying
out welding jobs on the vehicle.
•
Disconnect the battery earth cable before
removing theAlternator.
DONT’S:
•
Do not flash the Alternator output leads to check
the working of the Alternator.
•
Do not run the Alternator with the battery
disconnected.
•
Do not disconnect any lead ofAlternator / Regulator
with the engine in running condition.
•
Do not disconnect battery cables while the engine
is running.
