11.1.6.2.4 CLOCK SPRING

Clock spring is a spirally wound wire coil (not a slip

ring) mounted on steering column. This single-wire

type contact reel (clock spring) design ensures most

reliable contact possible between air bag module

assembly and crash sensor. It also provides the

electrical continuity for airbag and horn

The clock spring only needs to be replaced when the

connectors that attach to the driver airbag is melted

and fused directly to the DAB module. During a de-

ployment the gas conversion creates a heat ex-

change inside the DAB module and that causes

connectors to melt.

LOCATION

Clock spring is mounted on the steering column

along with the Combi-switch.
