FUEL SYSTEM 4 Follow the reverse process while re-fitment of fuel module. WARNING Unless replacement is necessary, fuel module should not be removed from the tank since the rubber parts I.e. gasket may get exposed to air, light and may become hard. Never apply an ex- cessive force to the fuel pump ports (delivery, return and vapour). This may result in breakage of fuel module ports. 1.6 FUEL TANK REMOVAL AND REFITMENT CAUTION Do not drain or store fuel in an open container to avoid possibility of fire or explosion. Put lid on container. Releasing fuel system pressure WARNING Since the fuel system remains under pressure when the engine is not running, release the fuel system pressure before disconnecting any fuel line to reduce the chance of personal injury or fire damage to vehicle components. Procedure to release fuel system pressure and then removal of fuel tank from vehicle: 1. Remove carpet cutout and remove plastic cov- er which has snap fit lugs 2. Start the engine 3. Disconnect fuel tank unit’s (fuel module) elec- trical connector located under center floor carpet. 4. Let engine stall, then turn “OFF” ignition switch. 5. Disconnect battery terminals. 6. Remove all three pipe lines of fuel tank unit i.e. Fuel feed Line, Fuel Return Line, Fuel Vapor line.
