C. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
(SAS
)
The steering angle sensor is fitted on the combi-
switch. When the steering rotates the SAS inner
part also rotates as it is locked to the clock spring.
This way it can detect the angle through which the
driver is rotating the steering.
LOCATION
The SAS is mounted on the combi-switch below
the clock spring.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Steering Angle Sensor used for vehicle is an
absolute angle measuring non-contact type
sensor, it uses the Giant-Magneto-Resistive
(GMR) effect for measuring the angle.
The detection of the absolute angle is realized by
means of magnetic toothed gears with different
ratio called measuring gears. Steering wheel
rotation will rotate these measuring gears, the
GMR elements/sensors mounted above each of
these gears change their resistance according to
the magnetic field direction and detect the angular
position of the measuring gears.
The measured signals are signal conditioned and
transmitted via CAN bus to the ESP ECU
