3A.1.2.2.6 CYLINDER HEAD BLOCK

A. HEAD GASKET CORRECTION BASED ON

CYLINDER HEAD BLOCK PLANARITY

.

1. Clean any residues of the old gasket from the

lower cylinder head plane.

2. Clean traces of the oil gasket off the mating

surfaces between the cylinder head and the

cylinder head extension.

3. Check that the planarity of the lower cylinder head

plane corresponds to the recommended value of

0.1mm.

4. If the lower surface flatness of the lower cylinder

head is not within specified values, grind from the

nominal head height and then fit a new gasket

with the number of notches determined as

described below.

a. The head may be leveled to 0.1 m if starting

from a gasket with 0 notches and using a new

gasket with 1 notch.

b. The head may be leveled to 0.2 m if starting

from a gasket with 0 notches and using a new

gasket with 2 notches.

c. The head may be leveled to 0.1 m if starting

from a gasket with 1 notch and using a new

gasket with 2 notches.

NOTE

Q

The above process is not used to determine the

Cylinder head gasket but by assuming that the

starting gasket is determined based on the piston

projection (given under head “Selection of Cylinder

head gasket”) it may be further altered based on

the leveling done to the cylinder head.

Q

When within limit conditions (head gasket with 2

notches before leveling), the lower head surface

cannot be leveled.

5. The nominal height of the cylinder head is 105.5

mm+/- 0.05.

6. Check that the valves do not show signs of grooves

or seizing .
