E. EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM (EGR)
EGR System Schematic Layout
Description
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR)
system is
designed to reduce the amount of Oxides of
Nitrogen
(NOx)
created by engine during high
combustion temperatures. NOx is formed in high
concentration whenever combustion temperature
exceeds the specified limit.
In EGR system a part of exhaust gas from the
exhaust manifold is made to mix with the fresh air
going into the engine. This is done in part load and
part speed conditions thus reducing the amount of
harmful pollutant
(NO
X
)
by reducing the peak
combustion temperature.
The EGR quantity and its duration is controlled by
ECU instantaneously based on environmental and
engine conditions.
The EGR system of the vehicle is controlled by
the Engine EMS ECU.
The EGR System consists of the following
components
1. ECU
2. EGR Valve
3. EVRV
