II. PURGE CONTROL VALVE

COMPONENT DETAILS

Purge Valve is a solenoid valve (Variable

position), its opening is controlled by controlling

the field current of the magnetic coil.

COMPONENT LOCATION

PRELIMINARY CHECKS

1. Loose or damaged connections between

actuator and EMS ECU.

2. Check for back out of pins at both actuator and

EMS ECU connector.

3. Check for damage of connectors at both

actuator and EMS ECU end.

4. Check whether the actuator is stuck open/

closed - Mechanical failure.

COMPONENT SPECIFICATION

The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) meters the gas

flow which is generated during regeneration of the

activated carbon filter, utilized for fuel tank

ventilation. The CPV is triggered by impulses.

Duration and frequency are adjusted by EMS

ECU depending on the load condition of the

engine. Mounted on intake manifold by bracket.

SENSOR STAND-ALONE DIAGNOSIS

Measure the resistance across the Purge valve

terminals at room temperature; it should be 16+/-

2 Ohms.
