P0710 -03: External Temperature – Signal not valid
Overview:
ISO Code
P0710-03
Customer Symptom
jerky/sluggish gear shifting
Fault Effects (On Vehicle)
jerky/sluggish gear shifting
Lamp Status (If Any)
Transmission Fault Lamp OFF
Fault Detection Condition
This fault gets detected after Ignition On if Instrument cluster
signals the TCU that external temperature information on
CAN is invalid.
Normal Operating Condition
Instrument cluster signals the TCU that external temperature
information on CAN is valid.
Probable Trouble Area
Wiring Harness Connections / Instrument Cluster/ TCU
Healing Condition
2000 milliseconds after valid sensor signal
Component Details:
External temperature Sensor is used to measure ambient air temperature, it is connected to Instrument cluster and
temperature value is transmitted via CAN bus to the TCU.
Preliminary Checks:
1) Loose/ Damaged External temperature sensor Connections.
2) Check for damage or back out of pins at Instrument cluster connector and TCU connector.
3) Check correct fitment of ground cable connections on vehicle chassis.
Trouble Shooting:-
Step Checks
IF YES
IF NO
1.
Is there any rust/oxidation observed on Instrument
cluster or TCU or external temperature Sensor
connectors?
Clean the Rust or repair
or replace
Go to Step 2
2
Is there any deposit/coating on the external
temperature sensor (mud /sludge etc.)?
Clean the deposits or
repair or replace
Go to Step 3
3
Diagnose the external temperature sensor input to
Instrument cluster (Refer Instrument cluster
service manual), is there a problem with external
temperature sensor or sensor to Instrument
cluster connection?
Ensure correct
connection of external
temperature sensor input
to instrument cluster as
per instrument cluster
service manual.
Go to step 4
4
Is TCU power connections on TCU connector pins
5, 1, 3? Specifically check Ignition supply toggling
with key on/off.
Go to Step 5
Check and rectify
harness power
connections.
5
Fault Still Persists?
Recheck the above steps
Follow the steps again
for reconfirmation
DTC’s confirmation:-
After rectification, clear all DTC’s and ensure the following points by referring TCU parameters using TML diagnostic tool
before handing over to customer.
After key ON with TML TCU diagnostic tool connected, monitor the external temperature and confirm that it
represents plausible values.
Drive the vehicle through all gears in both Automatic and Manual modes
Ensure no DTC is active and Transmission Fault Lamp is OFF.
