P0716 -02: Vehicle speed input Signal not valid

Overview:

ISO Code

P0716-02

Customer Symptom

1. While running, if VSS fault comes, vehicle will remain in

same gear and will retain that gear till it comes to halt.

2. If vehicle launch in the same ignition cycle, then launch will

be allowed in the same gear (in which fault has come). This is

applicable to up to 2

nd

gear. If fault has comes in/above 3

rd

gear then launch will not be allowed.

3. After power latch, in next ignition cycle, user can crank the

vehicle and transmission will try 5thgear first and then

subsequent gears (4-3-2-1).With sustainable speed, clutch

closed and error gets confirmed and vehicle will retain that

gear.

4. Reverse gear is not allowed

Lamp Status (If Any)

Transmission Fault Lamp ON

Fault Detection Condition

This fault gets detected if (Instrument cluster sends signals to

TCU) Vehicle speed information on CAN is invalid.

Normal Operating Condition

Instrument cluster sends signals to TCU that vehicle speed

information on CAN is valid.

Probable Trouble Area

Wiring Harness Connections / Instrument Cluster/ TCU

Healing Condition

2000 milliseconds after valid sensor signal

Component Details:

Vehicle speed sensor is connected to the Instrument cluster and calculated vehicle speed values are transmitted via CAN bus

to the TCU.

Preliminary Checks:

1) Loose/ Damaged vehicle speed sensor Connections.

2) Check for damage or back out of pins at Instrument cluster and vehicle sensor connector.

3) Check correct fitment of ground cable connections on vehicle chassis.

Trouble Shooting:-

Step Checks

IF YES

IF NO

1.

Is there any rust/oxidation observed on

Instrument cluster or sensor connectors?

Clean the Rust or repair or

replace

Go to Step 2

2.

Diagnose the vehicle speed sensor

connection inputs to IC (Refer Instrument

cluster service manual), is there a problem

with any vehicle sensor connection?

Ensure correct connection of

vehicle speed sensor inputs

to Instrument cluster

Go to step 3

3.

Is TCU power connections on TCU

connector pins 5, 1, 3? Specifically check

Ignition supply toggling with key on/off.

Go to Step 4

Check and rectify harness

power connections.
