7. Similarly press out the constant mesh over drive

gear from the counter shaft.

INSPECTION

Following points should be checked before starting

to assemble the counter shaft:

Gear teeth for breakage, wear, pitting, scoring

and overheating marks.

Bearing seats for rotation marks.

Splines for breakage, burrs and wear on sides.

Over drive gear

1. Heat the constant mesh and 3

gear to 100°C–

120°C and press over counter shaft with proper

support in such a way that bigger gear i.e. 4

th

is

facing upward and fit the circlip.

2. In the same way fit 5

th

gear over other side such

that longer boss is facing upwards. Ensure proper

abutment of gear on the counter shaft.
