Refrigerant flow through A/CSystem is as follows:
(1) Compressor draws
Low pressure, heat laden
vapour
refrigerant from the Evaporator. (Suction
port - large line), and compresses the vapour.
(2)
High pressure, heat laden vapour
from the
compressor goes into the Condenser. The vapour
gives up its latent heat to the cooler outside air
through the Condenser and changes back to
liquid
due to condensation. Now it is a
high
pressure liquid.
(3) The
high pressure liquid
now encounters an
orifice (small opening) either an Orifice tube or
Expansion Valve. When the liquid passes through
this opening, its pressure is reduced and it gets
very cold.
(4) The
lowpressure sub cooled liquid
absorbs heat
from the cabin through the evaporator and the liquid
inside turns into
vapour
(like water absorbing heat
and turning to steam)
(5) This
Low pressure, heat laden vapour
from the
evaporator is now drawn into the compressor and
cycle continues to flow.
