BRAKES
TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSIS
Before doing actual repairs on brake system,
perform preliminary checks of the system as
follows:
1. Road test the vehicle on dry, clean, smooth and
reasonably level roadway. Apply brakes with heavy
and light load application at various speeds to
determine whether the vehicle stops evenly and
effectively.
2. Also while testing, check if the vehicle pulls to one
side with and without brake application. If so, check
tire pressure, front end wheel alignment,
suspension joints and mounting fasteners.
3. Check TMC fluid level. If found below minimum
(which indicates the leak in brake system) check
the entire system for leakage and replace the
defective parts.
4. Improper brake fluid, mineral oil or water in the brake
fluid may cause brake fluid to boil or rubber
components to deteriorate. If deterioration is found,
disassemble all hydraulic parts and wash with
alcohol. Dry these components with compressed
air before installation.
5. Perform a visual inspection for following:
(a) Brake shoe thickness
(b) Crack or pinching of brake hoses
(c) System leak
(d) Damage to components like TMC, Booster,
Wheel cylinder etc.
(e) Proper clearance between brake light switch
and brake pedal.
