10.2 MAINTENANCE OF HVAC / A/C SYSTEM
Routine servicing, apart from visual checks, is
necessary for the maintenance of HVAC / A/C
system:
1. Clean condenser with awater hose or air line, clean
the fins of the condenser to remove flies, leaves,
etc. Check the pipe connections for signs of oil
leakage. Dirty & clogged condenser results in A/
C tripping and less cooling.
2. Maintain proper refrigerant level as less
refrigerant results in
a. Less cooling
b. Excessive Refrigerant Results inA/C tripping
and less cooling
3. Check pipe connections of compressor for signs
of oil leakage. Check flexible hoses for swelling.
4. Add recommended oil and quantity in the
compressor during refrigerant charging as
adequate quantity of compressor oil prevents the
poor pumping and premature wearing of internal
components. Inadequate quantity of oil also results
into vane chattering noise.
5. Clean evaporator periodically to remove dust and
foreign particles as clogged evaporator results in
less air flow and reduced cooling. This is possible
only if HVAC is removed.
6. Adjust proper engine rpm as lesser rpmwill result
in stalling of engine and less cooling.
7. Check coolant level and ensure proper engine
tuning as this will prevent overheating of engine.
8. Check proper belt tension as loose belt will slip
and overtightened belt will result in noise and
premature failure of magnetic clutch of the
compressor.
9. Do not operate A/C without refrigerant in the
system as this will result in premature failure of
the compressor.
10. Do not perform a leak test of theA/C system with
more than 20 kg / cm
2
pressure as higher
pressure may result in damage to theA/C system
components.
11. Do not leaveA/C joints open as moisture tends to
enter the A/C system if the joints remain open for
long time.
12. Do not charge refrigerant in the A/C system
without carrying out proper vacuum as improper
or no vacuuming of theA/C system results in less
cooling conditions.
13. It is recommended to use A/C with fresh mode
open as this will lead to mixing of outside air with
cold air inside thereby reducing cooling effect.
14. Always ensure that the magnetic clutch is getting
engaged and disengaged when A/C switch gets
turned ON and OFF. In case the compressor is
running continuously (even when A/C switch is
turned OFF), disconnect the compressor
connector at engine end and take the vehicle to
nearest authorized service station.
