Loss of drive
The friction material has
come off from both sides
(centrifuged).
The shattered linings
are lodged into the cover
assembly or are loose in
the
clutch
housing. Some
part of driven plate could
be broken.
Drive error - e.g. acciden-
tally changing from 4th to
2nd gear at higher road
speeds like 60 kmph.
Allow the vehicle speed
to reduce before shifting
to a lower gear.
Pedal vibration when
starting to De-clutch.
The fingers of the dia-
phragm are out of align-
ment and show signs of
damage.
The gearbox input shaft
has struck the fingers of
the diaphragm on fitting.
Carefully guide in the
gearbox to avoid the input
shaft hitting the cover on
fitting.
Metallic sound affected
by engine speed when
pedal is fully depressed.
Signs of rubbing of the
diaphragm fingers with
the release bearings.
Incorrect clutch adjust-
ment, excess travel.
Systematically check the
condition of the cable,
linkage.
Always refer to vehicle
workshop manual for
correct adjustment.

6. Vibrations Through the Pedal When Starting to De-clutch
5. Loss of Drive
8. Excessively Heavy Pedal
The pedal is hard to de-
press. This stiffness in-
creases over a time.
The release bearing
might have been jammed
in the shaft.
Inadequate lubrication Apply adequate grease
to the release bearing.
A lug has broken.
Another fault in the
mechanical operation of
the clutch has caused
the lug to break.
For example, the yoke
arm is out of shape or
wrongly positioned at the
time of assembly.
Check the yoke and the
guide sleeve and replace
if signs of wear are
present. Ensure compo-
nents are lubricated.
Carefully check at the
clutch cable.
A location lug on the re-
lease bearing has bro-
ken.
The clutch is noisy and
the pedal can be slack.
